Huxham's Bridge Bid Enters QLD Parliament

Monday, January 25, 2016

Pauline Hanson's One Nation candidate for Hinkler, Damian Huxham, has been successful in listing an e-petition on www.parliament.qld.gov.au for the Queensland Government to fund and commission a feasibility study in preparation for application to Infrastructure Australia for federal funding of the Hinkler Bridge project.

"For decades local, state and federal MPs have been happy to use this proposal to garner votes pre-election but sit on their hands once the Parliamentary salaries and perks roll in," he said.

Damian states, "I haven't been elected yet and I've done more than all of them put together to get this project moving. All Queenslanders are encouraged to sign the petition as the benefits of this project reach far and wide across our state. They can also sign the petition in hard copy at our local events around the Hinkler electorate or contact us. Now that the ball is rolling and ducks are in a row, it’s time to get your support on paper by petitioning the State Government of QLD to fund and commission a feasibility study and apply to Infrastructure Australia for federal funding of the project."

Damian Huxham has been supporting the push for a bridge over the Burrum River between Buxton and Burrum Heads since putting his hand up as a One Nation candidate in the next federal election, for the seat of Hinkler.

If built, the Buxton to Burrum bridge will connect Bundaberg to the Fraser Coast and:

  • Encourage tourists to stay longer and spend more locally

  • Expand the reach of small local businesses – retail, tourism and industrial

  • Reduce vehicle emissions

  • Enable a commuter employee market for both towns

  • Provide opportunity for new tourism and retail businesses in the smaller coastal villages

  • Increase day trip range for residents of region

  • Encourage cross promotion of local tourism operations

  • Attract grey nomad traffic to spend in the coastal towns and get them off the Bruce Highway to open it up for trucks, making a portion of their trip safer and quicker.

  • Provide an alternate route when the Bruce Highway is closed between Maryborough and Childers

Please get behind this project and sign the petition if you are residing in Queensland.
