Foster Carer Announced As SA Senate Candidate

Tuesday, February 09, 2016

A foster carer has become South Australia's first senate candidate for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party, ahead of the 2016 federal election.

Steve Burgess enters the political arena after raising his own children and providing a home to more than 250 foster children with wife Jenny.

No stranger to community work, Mr Burgess has served in both the Australian regular Army and Australian Army Reserve, and has been a volunteer with the Australian Coast Guard, Neighbourhood Watch and the City of Salisbury Christmas pageant. In 2012, Burgess was awarded Citizen of the Year in Port Adelaide.

Mr Burgess has managed small and medium businesses and is passionate in the areas of family law, child protection, national security and immigration, parks and recreation, energy and natural resources, taxation and small business.

The former soldier says, “We are facing significant pressure from the UN and minority groups within Australia, to allow further migration from Islamic nations."

“We must preserve the great 'Aussie way of life’, and if that requires stopping those with apposing values to that of Australian’s from entering our country, I’m more than willing to make that stand.”

The fresh political face will challenge to win one of 6 South Australian senate seats, unless a double disillusion is called by the current Prime Minister in which all 12 seats will become vacant.

Mr Burgess said “South Australian’s appear to be over the fatigued, make-up of Senators from the two major parties. We have heard almost identical rhetoric from both parties while they’ve been in power over the past several years, and yet our fiscal position continues to slide further into abyss, and our public services are forever overextended”.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson says “the party has considerable support and membership numbers throughout South Australia, and I expect Steve will garner a considerable percentage of votes in the upcoming election”.
