ABOUT SAM

Sam Cox joins the Pauline Hanson’s One nation team in January 2017. Having being denied pre-selection for the seat of Mundingburra for the LNP for speaking out for his community, Pauline Hanson preselected Sam for the seat of Burdekin because that is exactly what she wants him to do.

Sam is a fourth generation local of the previous Burdekin electorate, his great grandfather Harry Cox being involved in the early days in setting up cane and cattle farming and being on the Burdekin Council. He has strong ties and associations that make up this electorate.

Sam was born in Home Hill in 1964 and attended Inkerman and Home Hill primary schools then finished senior years boarding at the Church of England Grammar School in Brisbane. Following grade 12 in 1981 he attended Gatton Agricultural College until 1983. His father died in 1974 when he was aged 10. His mother continued on to raise a sister and two brothers and to run the cattle operation and later sugar cane farm. We were no strangers to the work ethic on the station.

Sam said he was lucky enough to have played both Rugby League for the Home Hill Devils and Rugby Union with the Burdekin Cane Toads, Growing up in the Burdekin he made many lifelong friends through the club’s comradery and was also honoured to represent both Townsville and North Queensland in rugby union.

Twenty-five and a half years ago, Sam married Janine and had three children 11, 15 and 19 years of age that he loves dearly and wants to see have opportunities and bright futures in whatever they choose to do in their lives.

In 2000 Sam and his family moved to Townsville seeking work outside the family business where he has since worked for companies and run small business.

Sam has spent most of his working life in the family business as a grazier/cane farmer then in rural merchandise, small business owner and operator and at times working in other local businesses.

In 2012, he was a privilege to be elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Thuringowa in the Queensland State parliament until 2015 to serve the people of North Queensland. Since leaving parliament in 2015, Sam has worked in the rural industry as a Stock and Station agent covering the Northern region.

Sam wants to make Queensland great again and knows to do that the northern part of the state must prosper.
